How to Create a Mandala or Healing Grid

How to Create a Mandala or Healing Grid

Creating a healing grid or mandala with crystals is enjoyable, creative and inspiring. It is also easy and you do not need to have specialist knowledge or to be particularly “artistic” in order to create a pattern that is both beautiful and beneficial.

You can, or course, buy templates, on paper or cloth, to use when creating a healing grid but it is more fun to play around with your crystal grid patterns until you have made something that you love to look at. It is usual to leave a mandala or crystal healing grid in place for seven days, whether your intention is for healing or for manifesting a desired outcome, it is advisable to find a flat surface that you do not use for anything else and create it there.

Some people have sacred spaces or altars within their homes. Others use piece of wood, or stiff card and rest it on furniture in a corner of their space. It really does not matter how much, or how little, space you have, you can create a wonderful design with your crystals wherever you are.

Which Crystals Should I Use in my Mandala Healing Grid?

This all depends on two things:

Which crystals you already own, and what you want to achieve. It is worth having a core collection of “super stones”, such as Amethyst, Clear Quartz, Citrine, Jasper and Rose Quartz in your collection, as they are so powerful and very versatile. The shape of your crystals also has an influence on their effectiveness so you may want to ensure that you have some wands or points within your collection. Geodes are also extremely useful as they contain many small crystals within a rounded, cave-like structure which helps to both contain the energy and to gently diffuse it over time.

Different Patterns and Designs For Mandala Healing Grids

Most templates for mandalas and healing grids work with symmetry. They also work with curves, spirals and circles because this is how energy flows. If energy cannot move and flow freely, if it is confined by an obstruction into a tight corner for example, it will become what the Chinese refer to as “sick chi”. For this reason, it is not a good idea to have your crystals so tightly placed, touching each other or making a complete circle or shape with no way out.

Apart from following these general principles, the patterns and designs you make are entirely up to you. A large cluster, or geode of a stone like Amethyst, for example, can be placed in the center with smaller stones forming a spiral. You might place single pointed Clear Quartz pieces pointing inwards to focus the energy or outwards to draw off and disperse unwanted vibrations.

Try alternating stones with similar properties and colors to amplify the intended purpose of your grid. For example, if you wish to attract financial abundance, place a piece of Citrine in the center and surround it with amplifier stones such as Clear Quartz and abundance stones such as Amazonite.

Staying connected with your intention while away from your mandala during day to day activities can be equally as important to achieving your goals. Jewelry made of natural gemstone beads can serve as a connecting reminder of those intentions throughout the day.
