How To Cleanse Crystals With Selenite, Salt, Sage & Incense
When you wear or work with crystals they will absorb all kinds of vibrations, including negative ones and unwanted or stagnant energies.
Why Cleanse Crystals?
All of your crystals will benefit from regular cleansing and there are a variety of ways in which you can do this. Some crystals are porous and delicate, so using salt and/or water may not be appropriate for them. Others measure highly on the Mohs scale for hardness and can safely be left in water overnight or soaked in saltwater. Make sure that you are familiar with the properties of your crystals before you begin the cleansing ritual.
Incense or Sage
Using sweet sage or white sage smoke to cleanse your crystals is a safe method for all stones and has the added advantage of cleansing the atmosphere of the room in which you do this. To use the smoke method you will need:
- Bundle of sage or leaves and twigs
- Fireproof bowl or shallow dish
- Lighter/matches
- Receptacle to douse the herbs on completion
Light your incense or sage bundle and allow the flame to burn orange for about 10 seconds. Gently blow out the flame so that you have only the aromatic smoke coming from the incense.
Place the smoking bundle or stick in the flameproof bowl, or hold it in your hand if it is safe to do so.
Pass the crystals you wish to cleanse through the smoke slowly. Hold the intention of ridding the crystal of all negativity as you do this. You may like to recite an affirmation aloud as you visualize the negative energies drifting away with the smoke, leaving your crystal re-charged and energized with positive vibrations.
Saltwater Method
Only use this method if you are cleansing hard or robust stones such as Amethyst or Diamond.
Hold the crystal under running water for a minute or so to remove surface dust and debris. Take a bowl of lukewarm water to which you have added a handful of good quality sea salt and place the crystals in the bowl, fully submerged.
Some people like to leave the bowl in the moonlight during a full moon as this adds an extra “boost” to the charging and cleansing ritual.
Hold the intention of clearing your stones of any negative energies they have absorbed and ask that they be returned to their original vibrational state.
Remove from the water after a few hours and rinse the salt from them with cold running water.
Using Selenite
Selenite is a wonderful crystal and every collection should have at least one specimen. Not only does this stone cleanse itself, it is also by far the easiest way to cleanse all of your other crystals.
The best way to use selenite to cleanse crystals is to use a selenite plate as you can simply place your other crystals on the plate and leave them the selenite to do the work of clearing and cleansing.
Selenite towers also work well. Place your crystals near to the tower, touching if possible, and ask that they be cleared of all negativity and returned to their original vibrant state.
Selenite wands are used in a slightly different way but are equally effective. If you wish to use a wand to cleanse your crystals, you will need to lay them out in a place where you can leave them for a few hours. Take the wand and touch each crystal in as many places as you can, holding the intention that the negative energies leave the target crystal through the action of the selenite.
Selenite itself does not need cleansing as such because it is is constantly working to dispel and disperse unwanted vibrations. However, if you feel you would like to give your hardworking Selenite a helping hand, simply place it near to an Amethyst geode or hold it briefly under running water.
