The most prized turquoise is found in the southwestern United States, specifically in Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada. Hubei, China is also an abundant source of quality Turquoise and constitutes a majority of Turquoise beads available today, as much of the USA deposits have been depleted over the years.

Turquoise is a relatively soft and porous mineral with a Mohs hardness ranging from 5-6, so it should be treated with care to avoid damage. Despite this, it remains a popular choice for jewelry due to its vibrant color and cultural significance.
