Moss agate is a translucent chalcedony filled with green, moss-like inclusions of chlorite and hornblende. Despite the name it is not a banded agate, and the moss is mineral, not plant. The name agate comes from the Achates River in Sicily, where these stones were found in ancient times. In metaphysical belief, agates are associated with stability and strength.
