These bloodstone beads feature deep forest green tones speckled with brick-red and rust spots, and the pattern varies naturally from bead to bead. Bloodstone, also known as heliotrope, is an opaque variety of chalcedony, a fine-grained form of quartz, and iron oxide inclusions create its red spots. Found mainly in India, it has been carved and worn for centuries, and its name comes from old legends that described the red spots as drops of blood. Traditionally associated with courage, strength, and vitality, bloodstone is also linked in metaphysical belief to grounding and protection.
