Judging by the images it looks like the outer areas of the beads look different from the center areas in color. There almost seems to be a dusted look. Is that how arrive?

Tejas Beads

Matte stones have a tendency to dry out over time resulting in a less vibrant or 'chalky' appearance. If you want to liven them up a bit and bring out a deep black color, simply wipe on a little mineral oil with a cloth and it will darken the color. Skin oil will achieve the same result if worn frequently. The variation in color you mention that you see in the photos are actually finger prints. We hope that helps!
